ORDER FOR THE
RECEPTION OF NEW MEMBERS

THE PRESENTATION OF THE CANDIDATES

the names will be read and the candidates will be asked to join the Pastor and the President of the Congregation at the front of the sanctuary.

THE CONFESSION OF FAITH (To be asked and answered)

Dear Friends, do you confess your faith in Christ Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, make him your example for life, and take for your rules of life and relationships his words, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' (For) On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets" (Matthew 22:37-40).

RESPONSE: I do.

THE COVENANT OF WORSHIP AND SERVICE

OUR CHURCH COVENANT, Adopted May 5, 2002 (Candidates and Congregation, in unison)

"We are banded together as a Congregational Christian Church to maintain the worship of God, to proclaim the gospel of Christ, to develop in men and women a consciousness of our relations and duties to God and our fellow men and women; and to inspire each other with love for redeeming truth, a passion for righteousness, and an enthusiasm for service. To this end we publicly pledge our personal loyalty to Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, and we covenant with God and with one another that we will strive to express his spirit in our lives, both as individual believers and as a church; to live together as Christian friends and to submit ourselves to the government of this church; always working for its progress, giving liberally of our means for its support, and praying for its increase in efficiency, its purity in life and purpose, its peace and fellowship in service, and seeking in every way to make it an influence for the building up of the kingdom of God."

RESPONSE OF CANDIDATES

In the presence of God and these witnesses, do you commit myself to a sincere covenant relationship with God, and this congregation. Do you take the Arena Congregational Church to be your Church. Ever mindful of the needs of all members, do you promise to walk with them in Christian love and faithfulness. Do you also promise, that as you are able, that you will attend the services of this Church, observe it's ordinances, share in it's work, support, mission programs, and strive to help it become a fruitful body of Christian people.

RESPONSE: I do.

WELCOME TO THE CHURCH (Congregation, in unison)

We, then, as members and friends of this Church, gladly welcome you to be part of us, the body of Christ, in our work, hope, and joy as we serve our Lord. We promise to walk with you in Christian love and friendship. We also promise, as we are given opportunity, to encourage the development of your spiritual life.

At this time, we renew our commitment to our covenant vow. May we allow God to strengthen our covenant commitment to be true to him and one another so that we can be brought at last into the Church triumphant.
