Pastor's Report

During 2005 I preached 54 sermons for Sunday Worship, Lent, and Christmas. An Ash Wednesday Service was conducted on February 6. A Maundy Thursday evening potluck supper and Candlelight Communion service was held on March 24 . A Good Friday Service took place on March 25 . A Thanksgiving Eve service was held on November 24. We offered this year both a Christmas Eve Service on December 24, and Christmas Day, our regular Sunday, December 25. Some churches in the area did not have Christmas Day services. I conducted 13 worship services at Greenway Manor.

At 7:00 pm on February 19,2005 we produced a music program featuring "Some Kind of Sign: a Family, a Farm, and Faith" a concert in song and poetry presented by Nath & Mamie Dresser. It is a wonderful story highlighting the years of a farm family in Sauk County.

A number of calls were made to hospitals, nursing homes, and in homes of members, friends, and those in need.

One child was baptized: Jenna Christensen.

Two people united with the Arena Congregational Church, Michael and Kelly Christensen.

I conducted six funerals only two were for members of our church family, Darlene Mellom and Vernon Pitt.

The weekly Bible Study is being offered on Wednesdays, now at 6:30 p.m. Currently, we are studying the topic of Angels, good and bad. Leadership of the Bible Study rotates between the persons attending who accept the responsibility.

The Men's Fellowship has been meeting for a breakfast meeting at 7:30 a.m. on the third Saturday of the month.

I served as the Secretary-Treasurer of Wisconsin Congregational Ministerial Association.

These meetings provide a forum for exchanging ideas, and some opportunities for informal continuing education.

This year I have become active in the River Valley School Districts, School/Community A TODA (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Abuse) Advisory-Planning Group. Though my participation is minimal, I have helped with ideas the following programs: Meet the Blackhawk's Winter Event, Pre-Prom Presentation with Tiffany Thompson, SOS - Signs of Suicide and a Teen Maze. Brenda Jennings, A TODA Coordinator at the High School is doing exceptional work in educating our students and helping them to avoid the dangers of substance use and abuse.

It has been an exciting and productive year. I am proud to serve as your pastor. I am very grateful for your love, cooperation, support and encouragement. Together, and with the presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can accomplish great things for Christ.

Respectfully submitted.

Leslie R. Shultz II, Pastor, Arena Congregational Church

Sunday School Annual Report for 2005

Sunday school classes for the children continue to be held each Sunday following Children's Time in the worship service. The children are divided into two age groups with Steve and Karen Wilkinson as the teachers. David C. Cook, Bible in Life Series is the Sunday school curriculum being used. Alex Favreau received a Bible as he entered into 2nd grade this year.

The children provide special music every other week during the worship service. On Childrens Sunday in June the children provided and served refreshments after church. In July the children participated in a one day Daily Vacation Bible School learning about the Lord's Prayer. The AlphaBiblical Christmas play was presented one Sunday in December. In January 2006 a third class will be added for the 3-4 year oIds and will be taught by Jim Favreau. We have seen these children grow in knowledge and love of our Lord and pray that they may all make commitments to Christ in their lives. Please pray for our guidance as we lead the youth of our congregation.

Respectfully submitted,
Karen Wilkinson, Sunday School Superintendent

Volunteer Missionary Society Annual Report - 2005

The Volunteer-Missionary Society usually meets on the first Wednesday of each month in the church fellowship room at 1 :30 p.m. This year we cancelled 2 meetings due to weather or sickness. We had an outing in October when we ate lunch at Lystra's and then went to Ski Hi Orchard for apples and apple related products. We enjoyed a piece of their homemade pie.

This year the officers are: President - Marion Sanford, Secretary/Treasurer - Vivian Dodge, Sunshine person - Darlene Mellom, Luncheon Committee - Clara Harrop, Vivian Dodge, and Darlene Mellom.

We lost one of our dearest and faithful members to death on August 17, 2005.

Darlene Mellom had been living at The Meadows in Spring Green. Her death was due to a fall in the bathroom there.

Usually we have a project one month and devotions the next. We make forty (40) lap robes, Linus blankets and baby blankets this year. They were given to Bloomfield Manor, Dodgeville Linus Club and three baby blankets to Arena newborns.

We participated, along with the entire church, in the clothing drive for "Winter Wear for all ages" and gave money donations to the Salvation Army and R.B.C. Ministries for "Our Daily Bread", the booklet we give out to church attendants.

We do Thank God for helping us to continue in His work and pray for strength and health to continue.
