Fourth Sunday: LOVE

READ INTRODUCTORY SENTENCES:

Soon we shall celebrate the birth of Jesus. We worship God with joy in our hearts as we are reminded of the words the angel said on that first Christmas Day, ‘Behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people.” [Luke 2:10]

READ SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 89.1-4, NRSV

1 I will sing of your steadfast love, O LORD, forever; with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations. 2 I declare that your steadfast love is established forever; your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens. 3 You said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to my servant David: 4 'I will establish your descendants forever, and build your throne for all generations.'" Psalm 89:1-4 (NRSV)

LIGHT THE FIRST ADVENT CANDLE: HOPE

LIGHT THE SECOND ADVENT CANDLE: PEACE

LIGHT THE THIRD CANDLE: JOY

LIGHT THE FOURTH ADVENT CANDLE: THE CANDLE OF LOVE

READ THE FOLLOWING

We light this candle to proclaim the coming of the light of God into our darkness. With the coming of this light there is love, love that is ours not only at Christmas but always.

OFFER A PRAYER (You may use this one, or one of your choosing.):

O Lord, as Christmas draws near, there is a sense of excitement in the air. We anticipate the divine revelation of God’s love in Jesus. We want to love and be loved. Help us, please, to know what that means not only for us, but also for all those who have not yet experienced your love for all the world. Amen
